INSPIRATION INFORMATION

Inspiration Information has been delivering a soulful start to the West London weekend for over five years. Every Friday Phil Asher and Patrick Forge touch base for a session that spans the spectrum of from jazz to latin funk to boogie, disco to house, hip-hop to broken beat. The sound of the night has evolved over the years, expanding into the fusion of "many styles", classic and contemporary that make an Inspiration Information session.

The early evening session kicks off at 6pm with an all female DJ roster, Ladies First, bringing new energy to the mix. In the nearly always male dominated world of dance music it’s difficult for girls to get a break sometimes, so we’re happy to provide that opportunity, still keeping the musical values of Inspiration Information true to its principles.

"Over the last 15 year of clubbing I could count the female DJs I’ve had the pleasure of listening to on 2 hands. So, we would like to use this space to acknowledge Sasha Field, Katie Barber and Michelle McGuire for the Inspiration and fine selection of tunes they bring every Friday." Patrick Forge

Music has always played a big role in Katie Barber's life, collecting records as long as she can remember. One of her earliest influences was her mother who herself was a DJ during the 60's. Katie has been DJ'ing since 1994 but her DJ'ing career took on more emphasis with a move to London in 1999. Between 1999 and 2000 Katie played bi-weekly at the Gold Bar in Soho, playing a mix of jazz, disco and house; in 2001 she secured a monthly residency via a Dorado Records night at The Glow Rooms in Camberwell, playing house; and during 2002 she held a Wednesday night residency at Colours Bar in Camden, playing a mixture of house and broken beats. In 2003 Katie was a resident LadyBug - the all female DJ line up supporting the Bugs In the Attic crew.
Katie is also a resident FlyGirl where she and an all female DJ line up play a fusion of broken beats, Afro Latin house, US soulful garage and hip hop; and a resident at Clandestino, a once a month Sunday gathering at AKA and The End for the cosmopolitan house crowd. Katie is also the only female DJ to have played at the renowned Co-Op hosted at Plastic People, delighting the discerning crowd with a blend of house and broken beats. With guest appearances at &The Montreaux Jazz Festival, The Remedy at Herbal, Creme at Bacchus and SoulHouse at The Lifthouse, it's fair to say that Katie Barber's DJ career is firmly on track.
Katie has been a Ladies First DJ at NHAC since January 2000. The Ladies First set gives Katie the opportunity to play music from across the board and a chance to represent her tastes fully, playing Jazz, Latin, Hip Hop, Broken Beat, Disco, Funk and Soul.

Michelle Mc Guire comes from a very musical family and studied ballet until an injury at the tender age of 19 prevented a professional career. So what lies closer than becoming a DJ? Certainly Michelle doesn’t believe in boundaries and plays soul, funk, disco, percussive beats, deep house and basically anything she thinks has something to contribute. "Music is a sensory experience and I hope my records stimulate interest and pleasure."

Sasha Field’s parents were big fans of Jazz & Blues. As a teenager Sasha loved the energy of Disco Soul and Funk and followed her brother to various all dayers and house parties. Clubbing in the 80’s also saw the beginning of her vinyl addiction. In 1992 Sasha joined Spiral Tribe and travelled England, Europe and the USA as a DJ. A career not for the faint-hearted! After more than 5 years on the road, Sasha settled back down in London to recover from her adventurous life on the road. She has been a regular at Inspiration Information for over 2 years. Sasha passes on her love of music to her little daughter Jaz.
