We are honoured that DJ Derek has chosen the Notting Hill Arts Club where he has been resident DJ at Sweet Memory Sounds since 2001, to play his last ever DJ gig! And it's on New Year's Eve.

But we'll be so very sorry to see him retire! If you have not been fortunate enough to experience the monthly Sweet Memory Sounds, or to witness DJ Derek playing in his beloved St Paul's in Bristol, or at Glastonbury, then you won't know that it's DJ Derek's passion for bluesy soul, ska and reggae music, combined with his warmth and wit and waistcoats, that are part of the reason he's so special.

Derek himself might modestly say that it's those actual Sweet Memory Sounds that get people so excited, but it's the way he introduces and spins the tunes, some of which he bought on their release 50 years ago, that have made him sucha wonderfully unique selector. As FACT magazine has noted, DJ Derek is 'one of those rare figures whose star has risen as he's got older, building a phalanx of young fans through sets at the likes of Glastonbury, Bestival, St Paul's Carnival and just about every university campus worth visiting.' So we're delighted that he has chosen his home-from-home at The Arts Club to play his finale set.

It's going to be special, and Derek will be joined by friends including DJ Mylon and Adam Callan (MyJuicebox), who both played alongside Derek for many years at Sweet Memory Sounds. So come and celebrate an amazing man, mighty fine music and an extra-hyped New Year's Eve.

We're releasing 50 early-bird tickets for a night that WILL sell out, so we respectfully suggest that you don't delay too long. Also available at this point are three booths or tables in the bar area, which can seat eight at a friendly squeeze. The £220 group price includes eight tickets, two bottles of bubbly and a table or booth that can be your base for the entire evening. Don't miss this!
