Rough Trade Shops' RoTa afternoon

EVERY SATURDAY @ Notting Hill Arts Club (nearest tube Notting Hill Gate)

Doors 4pm - 8pm - FREE ENTRY!

Rough Trade Shops' RoTa afternoons have been running like clockwork for 7 years now, every Saturday afternoon 4pm - 8pm. It's ALWAYS free entry.

Originally started to replace the legendary Rough Trade instore performances, every week sees 3 or 4 live bands and DJs. Often there is a label showcase but sometimes not. The policy covers basically anything that is (or would be) on sale in the Rough Trade shops, taking in leftfield/alternative genres ranging from post-rock, electronica and alt-folk to fuzzy rock'n'roll and indie-pop, with all the stranger stuff in between.

Past bands include Razorlight, Young Knives, Jamie T, Azure Ray, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, Hot Chip, Guillemots, Loney Dear, Neil Halstead, Art Brut, Special Needs, Vincent Vincent, Rumblestrips, Turin Brakes and Les Incompetents, with showcases by labels and organisations including Warp, 4AD, Young and Lost, Drowned in Sound, Ninja Tune, Bella Union, Silver Rocket, Saddle Creek, White Heat, Fortuna Pop!, Do Something Pretty, Scruffy Bird, Track and Field, Truck and Rephlex.

If this tickles youy fancy, do pop in next Saturday. If you are a band/label/fanzine/website/etc and would like to play or host a showcase, do get in touch either on email courtesanx at yahoo dot com or via our myspace site myspace.com/rotaclub!

11 August:

with: Signature Tune Records present Outcry Collective, The Fuckin Hate, Days Ago, Young Guns (pic)

Signature Tune present a free afternoon from old school hardcorde to post-rock gems.
The Outcry Collective hook heavy hardcore rock and roll. The Fuckin Hate are ex-copperpot journals and play old school hardcore in short sharp bursts. London based band Days Ago play angular and heavy alt rock. Last but not least we have the Young Guns who will delight you with 100% rock anthems.

18 August:

with: Discover Club presents: Public Relations Exercise, Mandelbrot Set, 4 or 5 Magicians

Leicester's Public Relations Exercise are an uncompromising and inventive little outfit. Frontman Smith's unique delivery truly elevates the 5-piece above the crowd of other post-hardcore acts.
Mandelbrot Set like their drones, and they like them loud. With a penchant for electronics, effects pedals and live sampling, their Shellac-esque rhythmic aggression, they combine it all into a wall of noise, melody and epic structure that would make Kevin Shields weep with envy.
4 or 5 Magicians are a morose alt-grunge version of The Cribs, just more exposed and sadistic. The songs are bleached medley of rumbling drums and minimal vocals that talk out urban poetry and make a mockery of the very fundamentals of singing.
